Does your family have a hard time figuring out if the dishes in the dishwasher are clean or dirty? Ours has a little green light that goes on when the dishes are finished, but you have to open the door ( or lean over and squint ) to see the light. Then after you've opened it a few times, it goes off. And then I get the question, "Are these clean or dirty?" Or worse someone puts dirty dishes in with the clean dishes. Yes, my husband has done that. Hopefully I catch it and run the dishwasher AGAIN, cause I don't like dirty touching clean. Then it's not clean anymore!
So I came up with this to help solve this little problem.
It's a magnetic paper clip. I just made some colorful little labels on the computer and laminated it with my "laminator", also known as clear packing tape. Mine is simple and I didn't spend a lot of time on it, but if someone was really creative and had more spare time that I would want to give it, they could make a really cute one with scrapping stuff.
It works pretty well most of the time, but I have to remember to flip it. And then there is the big question of when I set the dishwasher on the timer to go off later, do I put it on clean because they will be clean eventually or do I leave it on dirty so someone doesn't come along and take something out thinking they're clean before the machine kicks on. Like that ever happens. No one but me ever seems to remove anything from the dishwasher.
This post made me chuckle! I, too, have this dilemma and my solution was to get a yellow post-it note and write CLEAN with a black sharpie pen. When the dishwasher isn't clean, that delightful piece of paper gets stuck up on the cupboard. (I am no where near as creative and efficient as you, lol)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I *love* your laminating machine. That's a true farm-girl solution, you know - using what you have around the house to serve the purpose you need it to... Love it! :-)
That is so cute! Yes, we often have the clean or dirty conversation :)
ReplyDeleteI love it! This is an ongoing "discussion" in my home everyday. Thank you so much for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why my Hubby has such a difficult time determining if the dishes are clean or dirty..... I mean, if they are dirty there is an odor when you open the dishwasher. I think he just doesn't want to take the time to open it and figure it out for himself and wants me to do so for him... ugh.
ReplyDeleteMy dishwasher is on hiatus at the moment, but when I get my new one - this will be helpful! It's pretty easy to tell if the ones on the counter are dirty or clean. :-) Thanks for visiting my blog - I knew as soon as I clicked on your link and saw horses that I was in the right spot. You'll have to share how you put the Command Hooks to use! (BTW, I think?? that Google Friend Connect is going away, or partially away, at the end of this month, so I've recently started using Linky Followers - you may want to check it out for your site too!) So glad to make your acquaintance!
ReplyDeleteThat is a neat idea!
ReplyDeleteGood idea!
ReplyDeleteSquirt a line of liquid dishwasher soap diagonally across the inside door as soon as you empty the machine. You won't miss that! I just go ahead and put all the soap in there but it can get messy.
